Objective: How can Penguin make books and reading an unmissable part of pop culture?
This project was a part of the D&D New Blood Awards Competition. Our idea was that young adults don’t find books relatable anymore. I’m Booked challenges young adults’ negative perceptions of books with curt slogans and bright imagery.
Seeing the success in streaming platforms, Youtube and social media, we wanted to engage infrequent readers with playful slogans, similar to how people casually engage with other forms of casual media like TikTok. We placed these ads in large public spaces to create a space where young adults can casually engage with reading.
We focused on Penguin classics to try to challenge perceptions that classics are not relatable for the modern era. This campaign could be easily expanded into newer books or other focus areas depending on the demographic and goals.
My role was brainstorm the penguin book design concept and I ultimately helped design The Odyssey and Dune.
